Record summer for airports in northern Sardinia
It promises to be the best season ever for Northern Sardinia's airports: IATA Summer 2026, starting March 29th, will have 6.8 million seats available, a 9% increase over 2025, and a network of 173 connections, 98 destinations (75 international and 23 domestic), 19 new routes, and the arrival of two new airlines. A new chapter in the history of Sardinian aviation opens with the first direct flight connecting Sardinia to the United States. The highlight of the 2026 summer season at Olbia Costa Smeralda 'S.A. Karim Aga Khan' Airport is the new transatlantic connection to New York operated by Delta Air Lines, which will begin operations on May 21st with four weekly flights. In Olbia, the total number of seats will be 4.8 million, a 7.2% increase over last season, and the schedule includes a network of 134 connections, 96 destinations, 74 international and 22 domestic, operated by 40 airlines to and from 26 countries. Among the new routes, Volotea adds Seville, Transavia activates Eindhoven, Eurowings inaugurates two new connections to Berlin and Graz, while BA CityFlier, a subsidiary of British Airways, brings London Stansted. A total of six new scheduled connections were inaugurated during the season. All major partner carriers are confirming and expanding their schedules. A particularly significant sign comes from April, which sees a 10% increase in flight availability compared to April 2025: the summer season is structurally extending into spring and autumn. Ryanair will launch its flight to Krakow as early as mid-March, while Lufthansa is bringing forward its flights to Munich and Frankfurt. EasyJet also made significant advances, operating five more routes than last April (Edinburgh, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, and Nantes), SAS to Copenhagen, Wizz Air to Warsaw, and Ryanair to Dublin and Vienna. Alghero Airport also aims to surpass the historic two million passenger threshold after closing 2025 with its best-ever result: 1,770,493 passengers.
